Lime Wood

Jan 17, 2020

Lime Wood, a boutique country house hotel, is set in the heart of the New Forest National Park, 1.5 miles from the small town of Lyndhurst and just an hour and a half drive from London.

Lime Wood is a luxury country house hotel with a difference. They've used Lime Wood's classical structure as the basis of their design but lovingly renovated it, keeping the spirit of its past, taking inspiration from its extraordinarily beautiful surroundings and adding the odd contemporary twist to bring it to life. It was five years in the making and the results are a rich collaboration of creative talent at its best. Architecture design is by Charles Morris and Ben Pentreath, and interiors are by Martin Brudnizki in the Courtyard Bar and Hartnett Holder & Co restaurant, and bedrooms and hotel interiors have been recently refurbished by Susie Atkinson.

Lime Wood's exterior is an architectural triumph in itself. A stunning Regency country house originally established as a hunting lodge in the 13th Century, they took great care not to over-run its original charm. It's a charm that has evolved over years and one that's given the country house a unique character that we can't get enough of.

There are a total of 33 bedrooms; 16 in the main house and 17 throughout the grounds, a series of classically designed sitting rooms, library, The Scullery dining room, Courtyard Bar, cellar and billiard room. The style at Lime Wood is both luxurious and relaxed - an elusive and enticing balance. They've made the most of local materials to ensure that the interiors ‘go' with their surroundings. So that Lime Wood's original charm wasn’t lost, the furniture is an eclectic mix of antique and bespoke pieces while the hand-picked artwork and objects d'art.

In the bedrooms, taking inspiration from the surroundings, Susie Atkinson has created tranquil retreats that are
flooded with light. Using a combination of contemporary and quirky fabrics with classical styling and antique furniture,
Susie has created individual and luxurious hideaways, each with their own character. Susie says, “Lime Wood is an
exceptional hotel in a wonderful setting in the heart of the New Forest. It has been an enormous pleasure working in
such a welcoming atmosphere and creating rooms that I hope suit the setting. It is a place I always look forward to
visiting – the in-house team are fantastic and they help make Lime Wood what it is, a unique and very special place.

The hotel includes Hartnett Holder & Co, a relaxed, stylish and comfortable restaurant - full of character, yet unpretentious. Angela Hartnett and Lime Wood’s Luke Holder, with their team, create locally sourced Italian dishes with a respectful nod to
the seasons. Hartnett and Holder’s food comes with a much loved Italian approach to eating - where sharing and provenance is everything. The style is chefs’ home-cooked food not chefs’ food cooked for restaurants. Both Angela and Luke are famed for their informal, grounded style of cooking and their respect for local produce.

Lime Wood has its own luxurious spa called the Herb House; a three storey destination spa dedicated to natural wellbeing that has, without question, significantly raised the bar for destination spas around the world. Inspired by its forest surroundings the Herb House naturally invites a sense of calm and serenity bringing clients the ultimate rejuvenating retreat. The spa has ten spacious treatment rooms including two double signature rooms - the Bath House with an indoor double bath and private steam room, and the Bath Garden with an outdoor double bath and private steam room - and eight further single treatment rooms. The treat in store continues with hot pools, thermal rooms (the Forest Sauna, Steam House, the Mud House, the Caldarium), the Hands and Feet Room for manicures and pedicures, and private soak baths in changing rooms that feel like decadent bedroom suites fit for royalty.

Raw & Cured is the restaurant in the Herb House Spa which offers delicious, natural and healthy food, including
freshly made salads, cured fish and meat from Lime Wood’s own Smoke House; as well as fresh juices and
smoothies, but not forgetting the glass of wine and fizz. The food sourcing policy is simple: Quality, Seasonal and
Sustainable and dishes contain an array of natural mixed nutrients, are low in cholesterol and use good fats! Our
creative team of "raw chefs" led by Sheila Hulme prepare everything from scratch, so not only do these dishes taste
fabulous but they will suffice any cravings and boost the body with an abundance of feel-good-nutrients. Raw &
Cured is about eating simply and focusing on the natural taste of quality ingredients to reflect the natural, authentic
approach to the Herb House treatments.
