Destination Design 2026: Designing for Feeling & Flexibility
From January 18 to 20, 2026, Destination Design confirmed itself as a key observatory for contemporary living where design is no longer just about form or function, but about emotion and adaptability for the future.

During the guided tour led by Jan Agelink, trendwatcher and founder of Jantrendman, one message became unmistakably clear: our homes are changing because we are changing.
One of the strongest macro-trends emerging from the fair is the adaptation of products to smaller living spaces. Today’s homes demand multi-functionality, elasticity and a lot of versatility. Furniture must transform, adapt and evolve together with its users. At the same time, the idea of the dreaming house surfaced repeatedly. We no longer look at our homes merely as shelters but as spaces that must give us energy. Color plays a fundamental role here: designers are actively searching for positive, expressive hues to counterbalance uncertainty and emotional fatigue.
A family company with a clear mission: designing furniture to last, Spinder Design presented new armchairs and chairs called “Flaming”, inspired by the elegance of flamingos. Their collections are versatile, suitable for different environments, and include their bestseller bedside table in a refined camel color, a true contemporary neutral.
Founded in 1991 and produced in the Netherlands, Jess operates at the intersection between residential and hospitality design. Their strength lies in creating office furniture that feels homely, responding to the growing need for comfort and familiarity in workspaces.
They&Me specializes in the dining area, recognizing it as the most important space in the home where people talk, eat and connect. The new Clovi chair, produced in Europe, reinforces the idea of dining as a social and emotional ritual.

A large, established company, Leolux designs in the Netherlands and produces in Hungary, with strong sales in North America. Their strength lies in offering different design languages, catering to a wide spectrum of tastes while maintaining high quality standards.
Dutch brand Harvinik is recognizable for its distinctive frame-around design. Their approach to color is intentionally timeless: shades that will still feel relevant years from now. A conscious rejection of fast trends in favor of lasting aesthetics.

Castlelijn proposes furniture systems that are flexible and reusable. Tables and cupboards can be reconfigured according to new living needs, especially relevant when moving house. The brand introduced four new metallic colors, created by Marik herself, inspired by shine effects and infinite sources. Castlelijn’s concept can be described as “Lego for adults”: playful, intelligent and endlessly adaptable.
The Dutch company, based in Amsterdam, ignore works with linoleum, offering a palette of 24 colors, including a new light blue shade. Their products combine sustainability with strong visual identity. The brand is actively seeking new collaborations and will be present at Salone del Mobile.Milano, reinforcing its international positioning.

The German brand Jankurtz embodies the concept of design for feeling. Elasticity and flexibility define their approach, with a strong focus on color as an emotional trigger. The new green sofa perfectly reflects this philosophy: fresh, energizing and deeply connected to well-being.
Based in Eindhoven, Japth is a lighting company exploring movement and mechanics. Their adjustable dining lamp, capable of going up and down through a mechanical system, responds to the changing rituals of domestic life. Japth is currently looking for new collaborations with designers, opening the door to future experimental projects.
From Bosnia, WOAK is a family-owned company producing everything in its mother factory. Traditional machinery combined with handcrafted details defines their identity. In a world of mass production, WOAK stands out for its authenticity, material honesty and longevity.
Destination Design 2026 showed that contemporary design is moving towards a more human-centered approach. Flexibility, emotional resonance, and longevity are no longer optional: they're essential. Furniture becomes a companion to life changes, while color turns into a tool for positivity and balance. In a time when our homes must do more than ever, design responds not by shouting but by listening.
