Designed by studio gram, Monarto Safari Resort tells a story of migration, encounter, and reconnection with nature. Conceived as a sensory retreat, the project invites travellers to step away from fast-paced routines and immerse themselves in a landscape where architecture, wildlife, and human experience coexist in quiet harmony.
A celebration of difference, beauty, and richness at the intersection of people, place, and culture; the design aesthetic of the resort embraces the African wild and the Australian landscape. Set within Monarto Safari Park in South Australia, Monarto Safari Resort is a luxury hospitality destination that thoughtfully explores the overlap of African and Australian landscapes and cultural identities. Taking cues from the sights, patterns, people, craft, and colour that evoke a sense of place, the interiors form a creative amalgamation of two continents in an eclectic curation.
The interior design avoids pastiche, weaving African influences into the rugged Australian terrain in an authentic, respectful way. Inspired by the patterns, crafts, and colours of both continents, the design celebrates cultural richness while maintaining a deep connection to place. This modern aesthetic feels thoroughly of its time and rooted in the Australian mallee. Artwork and furniture from South Australian makers embed the project in local culture, highlighting both emerging and established creatives.
Innovation is expressed through restraint and clarity rather than spectacle. Material transitions reflect cultural convergence, while handcrafted details from African and Australian traditions add richness and depth.
