VIA Antwerp: a New Destination to the Hospitality Landscape
Merav Bustan, founder of the Berlin-based design studio bearing her name, is the creative force behind the interior design of the new boutique hotel, VIA Antwerp, located in the vibrant heart of the Zurenborg district.
More than just a hotel, VIA Antwerp is a lively convergence of accommodation, bar, restaurant and cultural hub. It’s a place where locals and travellers come together for art, music, gastronomy, and an abundant dose of good vibes: an accessible meeting ground for anyone looking to experience the city in a fresh and inspiring way.
VIA Antwerp is a lifestyle hotel with 176 rooms on the Plantin en Moretuslei, right at the gateway to Zurenborg — one of Antwerp’s most architecturally distinctive neighbourhoods. The project reimagines approximately 600 m² of public areas into a welcoming social hub featuring a lobby, lounge, bar, restaurant, patio, multifunctional room, and public restrooms. The walls showcase artworks by local Belgian artists, including Sanah Fransen, Lene Thys, Maarten Denaeyer, and Katrien Vandecruys. Spread across eight floors, the hotel encompasses a total surface area of 6,000 m².
The interior blends Zurenborg’s Art Nouveau and Belle Époque heritage with contemporary warmth and a playful touch. Organic lines, layered textures, carefully curated artworks, rich materials, and bespoke design elements create an atmosphere that feels both familiar and unexpected “like the living room of a stylish friend,” as the client described it early in the process.

"My aim was to create a space that feels effortless yet intentional, a sequence of rooms that reveal themselves gradually. Successful hospitality design should feel like a conversation: inviting, layered, and full of small discoveries. The identity of VIA Antwerp lives in the details: the curves, the transitions, the moments of pattern and light. I always say that the final 20% of a project is where the story truly comes together, the part people may not consciously notice, but always feel. At the same time, a beautiful hospitality space must excel functionally. The layout is shaped around the team’s flow, sightlines, and the flexibility needed from day to night, resulting in a hotel that feels good for guests and works efficiently for the staff.”
