LIGERIO: Beyond the Surface

September 10, 2026

Through natural stone, terracotta, wood and tactile finishes, French brand LIGERIO explores how authentic materials can give contemporary spaces their own distinctive character.

There are interiors in which decoration comes from what is added, and others in which the material itself is enough. A vein running through stone, the irregular tone of terracotta, the texture of a wall or the natural grain of wood can become part of the visual language of a space, bringing depth without necessarily introducing another decorative element. It’s within this relationship between material, character and atmosphere that LIGERIO finds its place.

Founded in France in 2019, LIGERIO specialises in authentic materials for interior and exterior projects, curating collections that range from travertine and natural stone flooring to terracotta tiles, wall cladding, tiles and parquet flooring. Rather than treating these surfaces simply as a backdrop, the brand approaches them as an integral part of the identity of a space.

“Travertine can bring rhythm through its characteristic porous surface; stone can establish a quieter, more architectural presence; terracotta introduces earthy nuances and deliberate irregularities, while wood contributes its own warmth and natural grain.”

Natural materials rarely repeat themselves perfectly and therein lies much of their appeal. Variations in colour, grain, texture and finish allow a surface to change subtly across a room, reacting differently to light and revealing details that cannot always be appreciated at first glance. LIGERIO places these qualities at the centre of its collections. Materials are selected for their finish and authenticity, but particularly for the individual character they can introduce into a project.

The attraction of natural materials also lies in their ability to resist a precise stylistic definition. Indeed, stone, terracotta and wood belong to architectural traditions that long precede contemporary interiors, yet their presence does not necessarily make a space feel traditional. Placed within cleaner volumes, restrained palettes and more essential environments, familiar materials can acquire an entirely different expression.

This dialogue between heritage and contemporary living is particularly relevant to LIGERIO. Its collections can accompany renovation projects where continuity with an existing architectural identity is important, while equally becoming the starting point for completely contemporary spaces. What changes isn't necessarily the material itself, but the way it is interpreted. For example, a terracotta floor can recall the warmth and imperfection of an older interior and at the same time sitting comfortably beside minimal furniture. While natural stone can evoke permanence and craftsmanship yet become an almost monolithic element within a contemporary bathroom or kitchen. In this way, material provides a connection between different periods without requiring the interior to reproduce the past.

Texture, scale, finish, natural variation and the way a material responds to light can significantly influence the perception of an environment. The same space can feel warmer, more graphic, quieter or more tactile depending on these choices. This is also where LIGERIO extends its role beyond its collections. Working with both private clients and professionals, the brand provides personalised guidance in selecting materials according to the aesthetic, functional and practical requirements of each project. Its showrooms in Loches, in France's Centre-Val de Loire region, and Paris's 2nd arrondissement translate this approach into a physical experience. Here, materials can be seen together, compared and touched, allowing subtle differences in tones, textures and finishes to become part of the selection process.

This September, LIGERIO brings this material-focused approach to
Maison&Objet Paris 2026, presenting a selection of its signature surfaces and finishes. Within the context of the fair, the presentation offers an opportunity to experience something that images alone cannot fully convey: the tactile dimension of the collections, the subtle variations within natural surfaces and the dialogue that emerges when different materials are placed alongside one another.

It is also an expression of the simple ambition behind LIGERIO: to make materials with character accessible and use them to create interior and outdoor spaces that feel authentic, distinctive and capable of enduring beyond passing trends.

Building on What's Already There As this year's LIV Hospitality Design Awards winners settle into the wider conversation, certain patterns become difficult to ignore. Properties built for warm-climate escape recur across the list. Sustainability surfaces less as a stated goal than as a working method. And several of the strongest projects are renovations rather than new builds. Read together, the winners point toward where hospitality design is heading as the year continues. Designed for the Season Several of this year's winners speak directly to the season ahead. Kona Village , on Hawaii's Big Island, reimagines an 81-acre resort around the history of Kaupulehu, led by Greg Warner and Mike McCabe of Walker Warner. The rebuilt property includes 150 traditional guest hale, a new spa, and five restaurants and bars—two of which carry over from the original resort. Rather than a wholesale reinvention, the project reads as a continuation: a property rebuilt around what made the original site significant in the first place.
