A Tropical Revival by Studio Tilt Goa

June 1, 2025

Natasha Kumar and Abhijit Sawant of Studio Tilt Goa breathe new life into a beachside restaurant in Baga, North Goa, bringing the spirit of Tulum to the shores of India.

Nestled along the vibrant coastline of Baga, North Goa, a once-forgotten beach resort restaurant has found a stunning new identity—thanks to the visionary design of co-founders and principal architects Natasha Kumar and Abhijit Sawant of Studio Tilt Goa. Tasked with a complete revamp, the duo reimagined the space as a seaside sundowner that brings the effortless charm of Tulum to Goa’s laid-back shores. Infused with sun-kissed textures, sandy neutrals, and an abundance of natural materials, the restaurant channels a bohemian, tropical aesthetic. The atmosphere is serene and dreamlike—think pastel linens floating in the breeze, rustic cane furniture nestled amongst lush greens, and an architectural language that celebrates the surrounding sun, sand, and sea.

The design palette leans heavily into shades of orange and beige, echoing the natural hues of coastal sunsets and beaches. Materials like wood, bamboo, cane, natural thatch, and lightweight linens have been thoughtfully layered to create a harmonious, tactile experience.

On Level 1, guests are greeted by a rustic bar that makes a bold statement with its 270-metre layered fringe ceiling installation. Composed in hues of burnt orange and soft beige, the concentric circles sweep above in a dance that mimics the rays of the setting sun—a true showstopper that blends artistry with ambience.

As visitors move further towards the beach, the second level unfolds with lush plant life and tropical detailing. The in-situ concrete seating, rendered in burnt orange, runs across the length of the restaurant, flanked by dense foliage and panoramic views of the sea. Above, a 1,000-metre curved fabric ceiling sways gently in the coastal wind, designed to echo the movement of waves—a poetic nod to the ocean just steps away.

The third level, closest to the beach, delivers the most immersive experience. Here, a wooden ledge with high chairsinvites guests to sip cocktails as they watch the sun sink into the Arabian Sea. On either end of this level, two Jacuzzis face the ocean, offering a surreal blend of wellness and wonder. The floor seating nearby invites guests to sink even lower, connecting directly with the view and the soothing rhythms of the sea. A tropical mural at the base of each Jacuzzi, framed by rustic green cement-finish tiles and orange lime-washed walls, completes the visual story.

Every corner of the space feels thoughtfully curated. Ambient cane lighting, bamboo-and-thatch ceilings, and minimal yet warm-toned furniture come together to seamlessly blend design with nature. The décor, nestled within earthen niches, complements the laid-back elegance of the surroundings.

With its swaying palms, earthy textures, and soulful beach views, this reimagined restaurant stands as a glowing testament to Studio Tilt Goa’s design philosophy. It’s not just a place to dine—it’s a sensory escape, a celebration of tropical living where every detail whispers the rhythm of the sea.
