Salone Raritas: Where Collectible Design meets Cultural Vision
At the Salone del Mobile.Milano 2026, a new chapter unfolds with the debut of Salone Raritas. Curated icons, unique objects and outsider pieces. Set within Fiera Milano Rho, this new exhibition format introduces an immersive platform dedicated to collectible design, bringing together one-of-a-kind works, limited editions, and refined expressions of contemporary craftsmanship.

More than a curated section, Salone Raritas emerges as a conceptual and strategic device that bridges two worlds that have long evolved separately: the experimental language of collectible design and the operational dimension of the global design industry. Here, objects are not simply displayed: they become carriers of meaning, identity, and cultural narratives.
Curated by Annalisa Rosso, with exhibition design by Formafantasma, the project constructs a layered environment where design transcends function and enters the realm of storytelling. Each piece contributes to a broader discourse, where research, craftsmanship, and artistic vision intersect.

The selection brings together a diverse constellation of galleries, designers, and studios from across different geographies, reflecting the increasingly global nature of collectible design. Italian participants such as NILUFAR and Brun Fine Arts highlight a local landscape where tradition and experimentation coexist, while international voices expand the narrative toward a broader European and global perspective.

At the heart of Salone Raritas lies the idea of plurality. Each exhibitor contributes a distinct point of view, transforming the space into a collective atlas of contemporary collectible design. From the reinterpretation of Brazilian modernism to explorations of stone, glass, and wood as expressive materials, the exhibition reveals how cultural heritage and innovation continuously inform one another. Notable collaborations further reinforce this dialogue between disciplines. Architectural practices such as Herzog & de Meuron and Zaha Hadid Architects translate their spatial research into collectible objects, blurring the boundaries between architecture and design. Similarly, designers like Sabine Marcelis bring a sculptural and site-specific approach that emphasizes material experimentation and sensory experience.
Within this framework, galleries such as Mitterrand Gallery revisit iconic works by figures like Claude Lalanne, demonstrating how collectible design can exist at the intersection of art and function. Meanwhile, platforms like Mercado Moderno explore the cultural depth of regional modernisms, reinforcing the importance of context in shaping design languages.

Salone Raritas ultimately reflects a broader shift in the industry: a growing interest in uniqueness, authorship, and emotional value. In an era increasingly defined by mass production and digital acceleration, collectible design offers a counterpoint: one rooted in materiality, narrative, and individuality. By introducing this new platform, the Salone del Mobile.Milano not only expands its curatorial scope but also reaffirms its role as a cultural mediator, capable of connecting different scales, markets, and design philosophies. Salone Raritas stands as a powerful testament to this vision, positioning collectible design at the center of contemporary discourse.
