Mar Suites Formentera: where time dissolves into tranquillity and pure essence of being

May 14, 2026

A soft, luxurious atmosphere permeates every corner of the hotel, which embodies the spirit of the island through curated décor, thoughtful design, and immersive experiences. Mar Suites Formentera is a refined retreat where guests feel deeply connected to the surrounding landscape and to a slower way of living.

Formentera is a small paradise that can be explored even in a few days, yet it reveals countless hidden spots to those who choose to slow down and look deeper. The island has preserved its wild essence, which is exactly what makes it feel authentic, and "not commercial".

Mar Suites Formentera is a 4-star boutique hotel located close to the centre of Es Pujols, yet set in a remarkably quiet area. This unique position allows guests to enjoy both worlds: the tranquillity of a secluded retreat and the convenience of reaching evening life on foot. The property was developed by the construction company Mar Capital that acquired the land with a clear vision: to create an exclusive place where guests could truly experience the spirit of the island.

Architecturally, the hotel reflects the typical style of Spanish coastal towns, with cubic, block-like structures and soft white tones. With only 31 suites, the property offers a strong sense of privacy, creating a perfect mix between the intimacy of a private holiday home and the comfort of hotel services. The accommodation is divided mainly into two typologies: ground-floor suites featuring private gardens with an attached pool, and upper-floor suites spread over two levels, offering a more elevated experience with private rooftop terraces.

The interior design of Mar Suites Formentera is carefully conceived in a minimal-chic language while the property’s owner personally oversaw the design direction, refining every detail and adding a subtle feminine touch that quietly distinguishes the atmosphere.

The neutral color palette is intentionally chosen to allow the mind to fully rest, while accents of turquoise blue introduce a gentle connection to the surrounding landscape and also brings a stylish touch. This chromatic thread runs consistently through the entire experience: from the logo to the tableware, textiles and decorative elements.

Raw “dry stone” surfaces and finishes bring a sense of untouched authenticity, echoing the island’s wild character, even in functional details such as washbasins. While juniper light-toned wood gives the warmth, while woven elements such as sisal rope, wooden reeds and natural straw reinforce the feeling of a holiday sea-escape. In particular, in the bedrooms, the ceiling becomes a key design feature: fully covered in straw arranged in different directions, it creates a sense of movement and texture, enhanced by straw lamps and decorative details. This material language continues seamlessly outdoors where woven furniture and natural fibres reinforce the connection between interior and exterior spaces.

Since every suite is designed to maximise natural light through the large windows and open layouts, lighting is soft, carefully selected to highlight textures and design details.

Passing through the entrance, defined by a striking double antique wooden door that feels almost like an artwork in itself, guests are immediately embraced by an atmosphere of ease and understated luxury. Here, the minimal chic design continues in the lounge area formed by the restaurant, reception and pool area. Spaces flow seamlessly into one another becoming perfect for dining, business meeting, or chilling, giving the sensation to be in one of that exclusive beach club where time slows down and the life is made just to enjoy. Within this open space, woven textures, raw stone and warm wood dominate the setting. The turquoise accents the color of the surrounding waters and establish a seamless dialogue with the swimming pool just beyond. Fabrics, tropical-inspired patterns and crochet-like textures reinforcing a relaxed, holiday spirit.

The wellness experience at Mar Suites Formentera is particularly extensive, designed to encourage a deeper connection between body, mind and the natural environment.

The outdoor gym is surrounded by lush greenery, creating a training space that feels entirely integrated with nature. Equipped with designer fitness machines finished in natural wood, it enhances the tactile experience, encouraging direct contact between skin and organic material.

The wellness area offers a more secluded dimension - a quiet sanctuary dedicated to treatments and rituals curated by the hotel, with a focus on restoration.

One of the most meaningful rituals is the sunrise yoga session, held next to the pool and available upon request. Guided by an experienced instructor, the ideal practice becomes a gentle way to begin the day. The sun rises and your body wakes up in perfect harmony with it. In this moment, a deep sense of calm takes over your body and mind: the sound of nature, the soft movement of water, a relaxing musical background, your breath.

Adjacent to this area, the lounge space welcomes guests with a rich and balanced breakfast. Rooted in the authenticity and tradition of Mediterranean cuisine, it includes seasonal fruit, freshly prepared coffee, and a selection of healthy à la carte dishes. The service is attentive yet discreet, reinforcing the overall feeling of effortless hospitality.

The culinary experience at Mar Suites Formentera unfolds naturally within the lounge area, which seamlessly transforms into the restaurant Es Garrover (open also to the public). From lunch to dinner, the space becomes a vibrant yet relaxed setting where Mediterranean cuisine is reinterpreted with a contemporary touch, blending Spanish culinary tradition with a more experimental approach to flavours and combinations.

The kitchen opens onto an outdoor balcony, allowing guests to observe the cooking process and the quiet dedication of the chef at work. This transparent connection between kitchen and dining area enhances the overall experience, making it feel both intimate and authentic. The menu is rich and thoughtfully curated, built around extra virgin olive oil, aromatic herbs, and fresh local produce that reflect the natural abundance of the island. A food proposal is designed not only to satisfy the palate but also to nourish the body in a more holistic sense.

Obviously, the carefully selected wine list, featuring both local and international labels, accompanies the culinary journey, adding depth and balance to the experience.

In the evenings, live music gently enhances the atmosphere, transforming dinner into a more sensory and social moment without ever overwhelming the relaxed setting. Performances take place twice a week, on Wednesdays and Fridays, and are also open to non-guests.

Instead, during the day, the bar area takes on a more informal, almost tropical character, designed like a small island kiosk reminiscent of those found in faraway beach destinations. Here, signature cocktails are served to be enjoyed slowly: whether by the poolside or from a sunbed

Beyond the property, the experience at Mar Suites Formentera extends naturally into the island itself, inviting guests to explore the island.

The bike tours are the best wat to discover Formentera thanks to a wide selection of itineraries that lead through its most iconic spots and crystal-clear waters landscapes. For example, the route to Far de la Mola offers dramatic views, while another path passes through the salt flats of Ses Salines, eventually revealing the breathtaking beach of Ses Illetes.

For those seeking a aperitif with a sea view, the hotel collaborates with the renowned beach club Chezz Gerdi that blends unmistakable cuisine and signature cocktails into a vibrant yet relaxed atmosphere.

Mar Suites Formentera embraces a sustainability philosophy, turning environmental responsibility into an integral part of the guest experience. Rather than being imposed, it is lived naturally, allowing every guest to become an indirect contributor to the preservation of the island and its fragile ecosystem. One of the key commitments is the complete elimination of single-use plastic across all operations. This is reflected in the use of refillable bottles of filtered water throughout the hotel, as well as refillable amenities by the Mallorcan brand Tot Herba, offering natural formulations that elevate both sustainability and guest care.

The approach extends to the culinary philosophy as well with a strong focus on local sourcing. By working closely with nearby suppliers and designing menus that prioritise seasonal ingredients, the hotel actively reduces food waste while supporting the local economy. This circular approach to hospitality confirms that comfort, quality and environmental awareness can coexist seamlessly without compromise.

The experience at Mar Suites Formentera is not just about staying in a place but about entering a different rhythm of life: slower, lighter and more conscious. A place that stays with you long after you leave, not through excess, but through simplicity and presence.
