FORMA: Redefining Collectible Design in the Heart of Madrid Design Festival
From 5 to 8 March, Nave Una and the Central de Diseño (DIMAD) at Matadero Madrid will host the first edition of FORMA, a new contemporary design fair curated by Antonio Jesús Luna and Emerjo Arena. Promoted by Madrid Design Festival together with the Madrid City Council’s Department of Culture, Tourism and Sport, the project is conceived as a strategic platform aimed at strengthening the design market and positioning Madrid on the international map of specialized fairs.

Conceived as a complementary yet autonomous node within Madrid Design Festival, FORMA emerges with a clear professional ambition: to become a key meeting point for the contemporary design ecosystem. The fair expands the festival’s cultural framework into a structured marketplace, reinforcing the relationship between experimentation, industry and collectors.
By situating the event within one of the city’s most dynamic cultural venues, Matadero Madrid, the organizers establish a symbolic and functional link between heritage architecture and forward-thinking design research. This context strengthens the fair’s identity as a platform where tradition, craftsmanship and innovation converge.

FORMA will unfold across Nave Una and the Central de Diseño (DIMAD), presenting a broad yet curated panorama of contemporary practice. Established brands, emerging studios, galleries, publishers and contemporary craftspeople will exhibit alongside key agents working in furniture, lighting, objects, design-applied technology and new materials. Rather than following a purely commercial format, the fair proposes a cross-disciplinary journey through unique pieces, limited editions and projects that explore new aesthetics, processes and material experimentation. This approach aligns FORMA with the growing international interest in collectible and research-driven design, where the boundaries between art, craftsmanship and functional objects become increasingly fluid.

(PER) FORMA: Knowledge, Exchange & Collecting
A defining element of the fair is its professional programme, (PER) FORMA: it's an articulated series of talks, demonstrations, networking meetings and training activities designed to activate knowledge transfer and encourage dialogue among industry stakeholders.

Beyond the public exhibition, (PER) FORMA also operates as the fair’s collecting programme, supported by the Spanish Ministry of Culture. Conceived as an exclusive meeting point between galleries, designers, brands, institutions and collectors, it will unfold through private and carefully curated initiatives aimed at fostering acquisitions, institutional relationships and long-term collaborations. This dual structure, combining exhibition and professional engagement, positions FORMA not simply as a showcase, but as a catalyst for market development and sector growth.

Strengthening Madrid’s International Position
With institutional backing and a clear strategic vision, FORMA signals Madrid’s ambition to consolidate its role within the global design landscape. By integrating cultural programming with commercial opportunity, the fair contributes to strengthening the local creative economy while attracting international attention.
In a moment when contemporary design increasingly operates across hybrid territories between limited editions and industrial research, FORMA proposes a model rooted in curation, quality and professional exchange. Madrid will not only host a new fair: it will inaugurate a platform designed to connect ideas, markets and collectors, reinforcing the city’s standing as a rising capital of contemporary design.
