A very influential house

Venturoni Studio designed an apartment in Milan for Giulia Torelli, one of the new Italian influencers, where every corner can become a set for a live broadcast.

Giulia Torelli has a considerable and loyal fan base which follows her passionately in all her adventures, as a content creator, a closet organizer, radio host and now also writer. For the house where she lives with her future husband Beppe and her dog Palli, she had very specific needs. First, it had to depict her personality and approach to life - pink is her favorite color and her Instagram profile’s name is Rock&Fiocc; second, it had to be functional to her profession, every day live between a post and a story.

The project was therefore entrusted to an all-female studio, Venturoni Studio, founded by architect Francesca Venturoni. Francesca, with a background at Zaha Hadid and Sir Norman Foster, has, over the years, made color and unexpected combinations the essence of her work.

For Giulia she has wisely chosen the shades and nuances of each detail to ensure ever-changing scenarios for her live streaming and to tell the story of her daily life, especially during the pandemic.

The palette of the living room is set by the large carpet which invades it with its fluid and graphic tones influencing all the objects in the space. I like to start with an iconic piece like a rug or a painting, treat it like a palette and build a story around it- says Francesca. And it’s from the carpet that the lilac of the curtains, the orange of Urquiola’s coffee table, the blue of the sofa and the purple of the small stool by Sottsass come from. The only discordant element is the marvelous vintage Quaderna in the background, which confirms the postmodern spirit of the room. Giulia is, in fact, a vintage enthusiast who, with no flea market available, has brought her exper- tise to the online market, directing her fan base towards targeted purchases on every possible platform.

Another theme the lady of the house has at heart is decluttering. Among her many talents, Giulia deals with “rethinking the closet” of her clients. A challenging process that leads to make reasoned choices and to stop accumulating unnecessary wardrobe. But the- re’s one thing that Giulia and Beppe keep accumulating: it’s the books that fill the full-wall bookcase behind the sofa, where Fashion obviously lords it (o is the king). Giulia has still got her childhood books. This was perhaps the topic we talked about most with Giulia, Francesca tells us again, she would have wanted bookshelves everywhere, but in the end we came to the right equilibrium.

In the bedroom a delicate blue palette warmed up by small wood bedside tables, and the spherical yet unexpected light fixtures lay the scene for the unfolding of a fairy tale. The curtains’ blue gently blends in upwards thus converging the eyes on the abstract painting by Ilaria Franza which, featuring all the nuances of the house, can dialogue with the carpet in the living room.

The bathrooms are equitably divided between the two and their personalities come out more clearly (o more clearly emerge): the pink of small sized vertical ceramic tiles combined with the arch of the mirror for a romantic imagination; large concrete-like slabs, harder and drier, on the other side.
